365 things to do in Wagga #31 – Social riding with Bicycle Wagga Wagga
Christmas is known for causing the waistlines of some to expand a little, the motivation to exercise fly off with the reindeers, and the willpower to say no to those puddings and sweet treats obviously stolen by those cheeky little elves (nothing to do with you at all).
Now that February is upon us, it’s no longer fitting to use Christmas as your excuse, or to blame Santa’s influence for your jolly newfound roundness.
If you’re looking for a way to slowly get back into it, while not denying yourself of a treat or two, and you have a pushbike in reasonably good condition, then Bicycle Wagga Wagga could be just the thing.
Bicycle Wagga Wagga is a group of cyclists who want to share the enjoyment of cycling socially, while promoting safety and responsibility in the process. Based in Wagga Wagga, they offer a number of different rides and days to cycle, suited to varying skill levels – from families who want to enjoy an early morning ride, to those who want to go off-track. Plus, most of the rides finish for breakfast or a coffee break.
Everyone is welcome, although children must be accompanied by an adult for safety reasons. And, if you enjoy your ride you can become a member for a small fee, giving you access to a range of benefits including a regular newsletter on upcoming events and information, as well as discounts on parts and accessories in select bike shops within the area.
B4 Breakfast Ride
Held on Saturday mornings from 7am, the B4 Breakfast Ride begins at the Kooringal Mall (Lake Albert Road), enjoying a lap around the Gregadoo Loop, followed by breakfast back at the mall.
Coffee Grinds
The Coffee Grinds ride is held every Wednesday morning, departing 9am at the Kooringal Mall (Lake Albert Road). The ride is approximately 30 to 40 kilometres, finishing back at the mall where you can socialise with a hot cappuccino in hand.
Sunday Ride
The original social ride created by Bicycle Wagga Wagga, the Sunday Ride leaves Wagga Wagga Beach at 9am and 2pm, goes for about two hours and finishes at Scribbles Café (Fitzmaurice Street) for coffee, cake and a conversation or two.
So whether you’re trying to lose a few of those Christmas kilos, seeking a new hobby, or simply want to socialise in an active environment, put your foot to the pedal and go for a ride with Bicycle Wagga Wagga.
As John F Kennedy once said “Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of riding a bike.”
