365 things to do in Wagga #60 – Join the Road Runners
Running is a cheap and easy way to exercise. It gets you outside in the fresh air and the health benefits are innumerable. It’s also a great way to socialise, especially when other like-minded people pound the pavement beside you.
If you’re training for a specific event, want to improve your health, or simply need the extra motivation now that winter is approaching, then Wagga Wagga Road Runners will be able to help.
A non-profit group of families and individuals within the community, the Road Runners offer a number of walking and running activities throughout the year, with the aim of encouraging runners and walkers of all abilities to enjoy exercising for health and fitness.
Meeting every Saturday throughout the year, the club offers both short (3 – 5km) and long (6 – 11km) runs, with the last Saturday of each month dedicated to a handicap race, followed by prizes and a barbeque.
Personal times are distances are measured each run, allowing your progress and performance to be monitored and improved where possible.
9km training runs also occur every Wednesday night throughout the year. These sessions start at 5.30pm (6.00pm during daylight savings) and wind through the fire trails and hills of the Pomingalarna Reserve. Runners stick to their own pace, re-grouping at several points along the way and often finish with a cold beer.
