365 things to do in Wagga #66 – Annual Gold Cup race

Wagga’s annual Gold Cup race is almost upon us, with gates opening at 10.30am tomorrow morning.

Dubbed the richest horse race in the region, the Gold Cup will attract a top field of horses and a flurry of fashionistas vying for one of five coveted titles and an abundance of prizes.

With more than 40 corporate marquees and 12,000 patrons expected, the Gold Cup promises to be the biggest social event of the Riverina, providing the best of horse racing in southern country NSW.

The first race will take off at approximately 12.50pm, with another seven to follow, including the prestigious Gold Cup race at around 4.25pm. More than $250,000 in prize money will be up for grabs, including the $110,000 Wagga Gold Cup.

Myers Fashions on the Fields will be judged after race 2 at approximately 1.00pm, with over $15,000 in prizes to be won. Detailed information on what the judges are looking for can be found here.

A range of hospitality options will be available throughout the event (more info here) , with live bands playing track-side throughout the day. There will of course be bookmakers track-side also, plus big screens located around the course for your convenience.

Buses will also be available at the end of the event accessing the CBD and surrounding suburbs.
